Alarm system goes off at night for no reason?

battery backup
??!! asked:

The hardwired fire alarm system goes off at night for no reason. It will go on for about 10 secs and then shut off. There has not been any chirping indicating low batteries (backup). It is not near the kitchen or heater ducts etc. Any thoughts?

This happened to me in an apartment building. I think the neighbors would cook and set theirs off and mine went off in sympathy? Maybe you have a power surge? Not sure!

Same thing happened to us a couple of weeks ago. My husband had to take every smoke detector down and put one back in a day and wait and see if it went off after several hours. It ended up being the last one he put back in. We had to replace the smoke detector, not just the battery. The clip that holds the battery was broke possibly causing it to set them all off. As each detector was put back in,( as long as it wasn’t the bad one) it was working so we weren’t without protection.
