Lower capacity will drain faster. It may not be even enough for certain power-hungry features like the flash, zoom and autofocus. The number one power drainer in cameras is the LCD. Try to get higher rated batteries, 2300mAH or more. You won´t regret the added cost.

it doesnt have anything to do with power, its the time your battery runs from full charge to empty, a 740mAH battery will last longer than a 680mAH, but the difference, 60mAH is almost entirely unnoticable. say you can take 1000 shots with a full 740mAH battery, when you change the battery to a full 680AH, you can take around 900-950 shots. not much difference. dont worry about little difference. what is your camera? if it uses AA batteries you can find 3000 and 3500mAH that will last really long.
