If it is already running then you are burning fuel unecessarily. I found this site and don't know if this will work but it has 2 gensets in it - if the first one fails the second one automatically kicks in. If you speak to an electrician, he should be able to wire it in so that if there is an outage then this will automatically kick in but then again the genset has to be already operating.
