Battery back-up for Townhome sump pump?

Is it worth it to buy a battery back-up for our sump-pump if our neighbors have none?

It would depend a lot on how serious loss of power to the pump would be.
The pump is probably run by AC current. A battery produces DC. You would need an inverter, plus battery, plus battery charger, plus transfer switch. Probably a few hundred bucks.

It is a matter of risk vs. reward. The reward being a dry basement in a hard rain and power outage. It will happen sometime. Does the pump run much when it rains, or do you not get much water there when it rains. What does your insurance cover? How far is it to a floor drain? If the sump pit overflows what will get wet before the water gets to a floor drain? Try seeing if the floordrain will keep up with a garden hose. How fast can you get your nice stuff off the floor, or out of the basement, if it is raining and the lights are out? What will the cleanup cost be?
