Battery Backup/UPS question?

battery backup
Brian asked:

I will have 2 devices running about 55 Watts a piece connected to a battery backup and i need them to last for anywhere between 2-5 hours. Any input would be appreciated!
BTW, looking for specs. forgot to put that.

Most UPS’s only have a 7 amp hour battery which would only run those two things for about 45 minutes. 5 hours would take a system with a battery almost as big as a car battery. If the devices can run off of 12 volts DC it would be better to run them from a large battery with a charger attached. Or, if you need 120VAC, a small inverter/charger hooked to a large deep cycle battery. That would pretty much be a big homebuilt UPS. Nomadd

Assuming you mean a mains powered load.
Basically, you need a UPS with at least 150VA/Watt inverter capacity, and a 50 some amp/hour battery to last 5 hours.

Depending on the devices, I might see if I could direclt power them from the battery. For kicks, I’d get some solar planels to alleviate mains power use. classicsat
