    need new battery

Try removing the battery and plugging the ac adapter in. If the laptop runs fine without the battery inserted, the you wither have a bad battery or the charging circuits on the laptop are hosed.

It’s difficult to pinpoint a problem like this without testing the unit. You might want to contact Dell and ask them if there’s anyone authorized in your area who can test it. Or just look around and find a local shop that can at least troubleshoot the issue for you. You should still be under warranty, so Dell will have to fix it.

Don’t take it to Geek Squad. They just send them back to Dell anyway, and you can do that yourself.

ill just copy what i just wrote on another question

i had the exact same problem with my dell laptop, the battery life was 21 minutes. What i believe it is is that you had it continuously plugged in or if you unpluged it before its fully charged. For example, if you plug it in and charge it until its at 50% power then unplug it to change rooms then plug it in again, after doing this multiple times, the battery life begins to deteriorate. Also, when it becomes fully charged, instead of keeping it plugged it, you’re supposed to unplug it, let the battery die again, then re-plug it in.

The only solution i have is buy a new battery, and dont keep it plugged in unless the battery is dead. I know its annoying to keep on plugging and unplgging, but its the only solution i have.

i had my laptop for slightly over a year and the only solution was to buy another battery, because unfortunately it was not covered in the warrenty. Call up dell and buy another battery

Whatever you do .do it soon. 10 months old means you still have two months warranty left. They should replace the battery or the charger, whichever is the problem. Get on to them soon before the warranty runs out.

Batteries have a limited number of charge discharge cycles before requiring replacement. Sounds like yours is toast, :( If you decide to get a replacement, look for the brand upstart battery. They have a lifetime warranty, so at least if it dies again, it will be on their dime, haha. You can find them at the site below, and on amazon.com among other places.

Sometimes people recommend “cycling” your batteries. However, deep cycling has little or no affect on a lithium ion battery. This is old info from the days of NIMH and NICAD battery technologies that did develop memory effects. Deep cycling it will just waste your charge discharge cycles.

One last tip - for maximum lifespan, don’t store the battery for extended periods in a fully charged state. This is because batteries develop something called a passivating layer in between uses. This is a normal and vital part of lithium ion battery chemistry - it is part of how the batteries retain their charges so long in the first place. However, if stored too long, the battery will not be able to power the device as the passivating layer will become too thick. The other way easy way to remove it - charging it - will not work as the battery is fully charged.

There is a fix for this if you are interested, check the blog at the site below for the fix and other battery related trinkets of info.

    Take care - Todd
