You will need a generator of some kind to keep the battery up. You can build one very easy with nothing more than a old generator off of a old tractor, a mechanical regulator and a small gas engine. I have done it. For a small lamp with a 60 watt bulb and a small TV. I had two deep cycle batteries and a power inverter. The motor i used was a one horse power. But by the time i was done with it, It also had a 5 gallon can full of gas. I had it fixed so it gravity fed into the other small tank that was mounted on the motor. It would run for hours and hours.

The deep cycle battery would be better as it is designed to be run all the way down with out harming it. It is not the best option but it will get you by in a pinch.

No. A generator would be better to handle a long term power loss.
