Can I plug a three prong surge protector into another surge protector that will work in a ungrounded outlet?
jessica9874 asked:
My husband and I just bought a new LCD television, with a “special” surge protector to cut down on “bad electricity” which is supposed to prolong the life of our tv. Any ways, the “special” surge protector has three prongs and our wall outlet only has two prongs. I have another surge protector that will work in a two prong outlet; so I plugged that one in and plugged my “special” surge protector into it. I only plan on plugging in about 5 things so I know I will not over load the outlet, but am I going to hurt my tv? Also does this defeat the purpose of the “special” surge protector?

I think you need 3 prong wall plug for Surge protector to work
You say you have a two prong surge protector…Are you sure it is a surge protector and not a just a power bar?
Anyway, if there are not any 3 prong wall plugs in your house, you have no option. Plug the special Surge into the other one that is plugged into the wall.
It may work as a surge protector, It may not.

From the way I read the question you should be ok, But you should change the plug to a 3 way your local hardware could tell you how to make the change.

Yes it will defeat the purpose of the “special” surge protector. Surge protectors usually have three sets of “protection” Hot to Neutral, Hot to Ground and Neutral to Ground. Without the ground connection you loose 2/3rds of your protection. Call in an electrician to wire up a proper outlet.
