GBA Pokemon Link Save Game Error?

Playing Pokemon on PC using GBA / VisualBoyAdvance program.

Am in the pokemon centre trying to trade pokemon with friend on the network but need to save the game before can connect to do so. Get a save game error when try to save, with message ‘change backup battery’. obviously unable to do this.

How can I manage to save the game and proceed to then trade?
