copier service tech “don’t use a ups with the copier”?

i figured this thing is expensive, lets plug it into a battery backup/surge protector thingy. tech comes in to service and

There are several sites that warn against this. The one listed below is one you could read up on. It says “Generally, this is not a good idea. If you ever measured the current draw of a laser printer during startup (and during printing) you’d likely be stunned at what it pulls. UPS manufacturers generally recommend that you not do this. Some UPSes are available that are specifically intended for use with laser printers, but most don’t. At the very least, don’t do this unless you have carefully sized your equipment and your UPS vendor has committed to supporting this particular configuration.”
In our offices, we have never put our printers on a UPS, especially the big expensive ones.
