try unplugging your wireless sets and use them. They won't work because you have taken away their source of power. Same as a power outage. Now, with older phones, you don't need a power source to run the phone itself and the landline coming in is powered at the central office so your phone will work in case of an outage.

it would be wise for all to keep a simple phone that needs no power supply. if the telephone lines are intact but the power is out they will work. i keep one in my emergency kit along with all of the essentials that would help in such a situation.

Only the handset charges and has power when there is a power outage. The base/charger only has power when the outlet does. The phone must have the base which is plugged into the jack to operate. just get a cheap corded phone to plug in in an emergency. hope this makes some since and helps.

Yes, you really need a phone with a cord for backup. Cordless phones won't work. As a Florida resident, I've been through many a hurricane, and the power has gone out for weeks at a time. You can't charge your cell phone unless you have one of those battery powered thingies. A corded phone costs only around 10 bucks these days, so it's really not so bad.

they are all powered by the power lines.. corded phones get their power through the phone line itself. wireless phones use other power sources than the phone lines
