I am considering buying multiple backup Lithium Ion batteries for my GBA SP before Nintendo stops producing them.

Lithium batteries deteriorate with time even when not in use. They deteriorate faster than a simple Alkaline battery. I quit buying spare batteries. I just buy a fresh replacement when I notice the useful life of my battery is getting too short. Nintendo doesn’t produce batteries, they will continue to be available even if Nintendo goes down the toilet.

Lithium Ion batteries lose about 1% of their charge every day. If you charge them up every month or two months they should last for years.
