I have a hard wired smoke detector with battery back-up. The battery is getting hot any idea why?

It is a non-rechargeable battery like what was in it originally.

Is it supposed to be a rechargeable battery and you put a non-rechargeable battery in it, such as an alkaline battery? If the smoke detector is trying to charge the battery this could occur.

Possible causes.
1. You have the wrong type battery.
2. The charging system is over charging the battery.
3. They charger is bad.
4. The battery is bad.
