I want a backup car battery. How can I build it. Or Where can I find it?

I’m thinking I can buy parts at radioshack and just connect the cigarette lighter to a spare battery in the back. Not sure how the fuses will work or if I need a resistor maybe.

A battery isolator, a battery and some cables, you will have a second battery isolated from your electrical system but remains charged from your alternator

Just go buy one at a auto store

Black and Decker sells this….. as do several other people….

    Homemade would be more dangerous…

don’t try to hook a battery to the cigartte lighter. The lighter is only meant to support a few amps. The starter, if you were to try and use it for starting, needs hundreds of amps. You will fry the wires. The isolater is the best way to go. The problem of having a spare to use, is if you don’t charge it daily, It will be dead when you want it.
