If the hit was too much, a computer and other devices can still be destroyed, but the chances of protection are much greater when using one. Some hits to houses are so violent that the protector cant deal with them. Friend had one fried, who knows how good her surge protector was though, a few years back. I have them on everything, never had a direct hit yet to test them out.
