If I turn off my surge protector bar, will I still be protected?
Thomas W asked:
I normally turn off my surge protector bar (main power button for the entire bar) after my computer has shut down. Am I still being protected?

If you turn the surge protector off, then there is no way an electrical surge can get to your pc. Steve B

yes, as long as your power bar is still on.

NO - it is important to be protected when the computer is running (obviously) as well as when it is down. Example: lightning damage. sosguy

when you turn off a surge protector you are stopping the flow of electricity complete to all appliances attached to it. it is also a way to start with the BIG GREEN HELP cricketx10

Yes.. The protection is before the switch…so either on or off the surge components will take the heat.. Randall H

A surge protector has a circuit that controls voltage when the bar is plugged into the wall this circuit is going to have all the voltage pass through it.
That being said if you have the bar on or off it doesnt matter becuase the protection is physical not electrical if you follow. There is a breaker if you will in the bar that will trip if to much voltage comes at the bar. so if the bar is off it doesnt matter the circuit will still trip.
hope this helps zerocool662002
