I have an old IBM thinkpad laptop, and I need to swap out the dead backup battery. I know the CR2032 has a high miliamp, but can tat damage my motherboard.

No, it will just last longer.

CR2032 is thicker, it may not fit properly or if you force it, it may crack the holder.

I’d get a real 2025 from the drugstore. It only costs a dollar or two. I tried putting a 2032 in place of a 2025 in my old camcorder, and it wouldn’t fit.
