Is there a type of system or way to hook a battery backup to an existing sump pump?

I have seen the battery backup sump pump systems but does anyone make anything in where you can hook up a battery backup to a sump pump thats already installed instead of buying a battery backup that comes with a sump pump already.I just dont want to have to change the pump out because the one installed is almost brand new.

You might want to call the manufacturer of your existing pump to see if the have a battery backup kit for it.

Yes there is but…
Most battery backup pumps operate on 12 volts DC. Most non-battery backup pumps operate on 120 volts AC. You can use a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) on your pump but it may get expensive depending on how much the pump would have to run and for how long.

I have an AC sump pump that is set to turn on when the water reaches a certain height. If the AC fails, or the AC sump pump fails, then I have a 12 Volt battery system that will turn on when the water reaches a level about an inch higher in the sump hole. I also have another AC sump pump available if my AC one or a neighbour’s AC sump pump fails during the night when stores are closed. I also have a back up generator in case a power failure lasts a long time.
I think what you are suggesting is to purchase a 12 volt power pack that can be charged, then you plug in a DC to AC inverter that will change the 12 volts DC to 110 volts AC. I use a small inverter in my car to run my laptop, or charger cell phones, Nintendo DS, etc. You have to make sure that the power pack and the inverter will provide enough power to run your sump pump for the entire power outage. You could go to a local hardware store like Home Depot and discuss with them the options that they have available.

buy an inverter, put a relay on it to hold the battery power off while there’s power when it shuts off the relay will drop out allowing the battery to kick in
