Is there any electrical danger to use an extension cord to hook up a surge protector?
The Computer Geek/Vet Tech asked:
I have in my head that it increases the risk of starting a fire. I’m not sure where I heard it, or if it’s even true. Nothing to long, maybe just a 25ft cable (from the wall) hooking to a 6 strip surge protector.

So long as the cord is in good shape and rated for the amps and voltage you’re pushing over it, it is not a hazard.

I did that, BIG MISTAKE, HUGE. Please, for your own safety, do not do it. Unless you want your home to burn to the ground. It may seem ok, for even a yer, no problems but eventually, whether, 2 days or 2 years, it is inevitable to cause severe damage.
