Lost power last night.now computer wont turn on?
Randy W asked:
I had it plugged into a power supply, but not a battery backup. This morning when I woke up I saw my alarm was flashing so I assumed we lost power for a little bit, and my computer was off. Now when I go to turn my computer on nothing happens, the fans dont turn or anything. Im pretty sure its the power supply, but would like to confirm with someone who knows more about the issue than me. Does it sound like its just the power supply? or is my whole computer fried?

Probably the power supply if it won’t even light up

You need to do an ATX reset.
Unplug EVERYTHING from the base unit (including the power cable).
Once you’ve done that, press and hold the power button in for about 30 seconds.
After that, plug in the power cable, monitor, mouse and keyboard then try turning it on.
Good luck

Most likely it is only the power supply but it could be the whole motherboard. Before you buy any thing to repair it buy a power supply tester. I bought mine from tigerdirect.com for like 20 dollars.

Just smell the inside of the power coil. If it’s been fried, you’ll be able to smell it.

First thing to check is the power supply rest. Unplug your power supple cord. Wait about 3 to 5 minutes and plug it back in and try a reboot. If that doesn’t help, take the machine in and have the power supply checked.
