Mac Users: Do I need to backup my files before resetting the PMU on a PowerBook?
A* asked:
For some reason my PowerBook battery can no longer hold a charge. I’m about to reset the Power Management Unit (PMU) to see if that solves the problem. It’s my first time doing this so I wanted to find out if I needed to backup important files before going ahead with the procedure.

No, resetting the PMU doesn’t affect the hard disk at all.

No, but you should back up just in case. I’ve done a few PMU resets with my PB G4 without any problems. Some things might need to be reset after, like Time & Date, Startup Disk and some others.
