Jose asked:

I was wondering, I have a power surge protector with a battery backup hooked up to my computer.

I still shut the computer down though during bad storms, But i was wondering if this mad a difference at all now that i have a protector.

Should i shut my computer down during bad lightining storms even with a power surge protector?

A little extra safety couldn’t hurt. A lightening strike, if close enough, will fry a surge protector and may also jump past it as surge protectors are not designed to handle that much of an overload.

the ONLY sure way to protect your computer during lightening storm is unplug it from the wall….unplug the telephone cord that is attached to your computer too. i lost a computer to power surge during Charlie thru my telephone line into the computer. Unplug everything from the computer that is attached to an outside sorce of electricity. I lost another computer from lightening when i had left my printer plugged into the wall and it was connected to the computer and the only source of power surge…fried my circuit board.
