UPS battery discharged - Does UPS still provide surge suppression?

The battery in my APC Back_UPS Pro 650 is discharged - but I do NOT want to purchase another battery or UPS because the stand alone computer system it is protecting will no longer be used in a couple of months.

Will that UPS (with the discharged battery) still provide surge suppression. I do realize that without a working battery, it can no longer go on battery backup nor automatically shutdown the computer.

How the Backup battery can handle more Watts?
