Battery Backup Guide

First, I guess I should ask if anyone thinks a battery-powered pump is a better option. I have a small home and now (with a bit of snow on the ground here in MA) the pump comes on maybe once every 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. I have city water, so I have been reading that the water-powered backup pump is an option. I have read some complaints about the battery backups, but I have not seen anything to dissuade me from the water-powered one. I was wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark price on having someone installing one of these. Thanks in advance!

I recently put in a USB external 500GB HDD. I tried multiple usb ports and the computer recognizes something being plugged in via the safely remove hardware screen. After trying to print I am prompted with an “error in the connection” message. After deleting the printers, the auto-find-and-install process of plug-and-play in printers and faxes panel says no printers can be found. I have all USB ports front and back plugged up with keyboard, mouse, 2 external HDDs, 1 printer (the one were talking about), APC battery backUPS and the last for the USB audio DAC link to my shelf system (essentially giant speakers). The printer has never done this until I turned on the new external HDD.

Am i wrong if i say?
1. Toshiba, ibm are most reliable (no sudden failures).
2. Finger print technology is useful and not a burden
3. 1gb is fine for me
4. Video card generates enormous heat and consumes battery heavily
5. Larger screen will be useful for me
6. In Kerala, best access to net is through Airtel GPRS on my nokia 5700 for laptop, compared to pcmcia
7. Extra battery is necessary
8. 3 years hence, one will have to go for a new one
9. APC emergency battery backups are useful when short of power for a long time
10. Good carry bag is necessary
11. Office 2007

Usage: Rough use.

Peer group: 3 dell, 1 acer, 1 hp

Priority: Reliable - no sudden problems

future, unlikely: browsing at hotspots, photoshop, game

What’s the best sump pump backup that is availble and most reliable? I have heard negative reviews on battery backups and them failing. My partially finished basement recenly flooded due to a power outage which is why I am trying to pick one out.

Last night there was a bad storm. The power didn’t go off, but if it did my laptop would’ve gone to battery backup–all my work would’ve been saved.

That got me thinking–why can’t other electronics have battery backups standard? I’m not talking about radios that you can put your own batteries into for backup. I mean, desktop computers, DVD players (so if you’ve programmed a program it’ll still record), televisions, etc.

Why don’t they build batteries into all of these commonly used electronics?
