Is this true? And what should I do regarding my battery if im not really planning on using all that much?

The screen doesn’t light up, the little window out the outside of the phone isnt lighting up as bright, the speaker doesnt play very loud and it wont recieve any service. It said on the screen to replace the back up battery at the service provider place. What exactly does that mean? I’ve never heard of it.
