I have a Compaq presario V2600 which is barely couple of yrs old. But the battery has always given me trouble. It does not last more than 10 minutes. Is it something wrong with it or is that the normal duration of backup time. If I were to go for a new laptop battery, what are the specs I need to look for and where would I find a good battery for my laptop.

My backup is my wireless phone but what if the duration of the power outage is longer (over 24hours), which means battery has not been charged on my cellphone. What then? All my home telephone are wireless handset where the homebase is plugged into the electrical outlet and the phone jack. Why wouldn’t these wireless handset work when there’s a power
outage when it’s always charging when not in use ???

Anjay M asked: I m considering changing the battery to a bigger one so as to increase the backup duration.
The battery that came with it is 12V 7.5 Ah. The battery I m planning to put is a 12 V 100 Ah. Now my question is, will the big battery increase the standby duration without toasting the hardware in the UPS and charge the battery once its drained ?
P.S. I have an APC Back-UPS ES 500 VA,300 Watts.
I m aware of that aspect and I do plan to keep the battery externally.
But will the charger be sufficient to recharge the bigger battery.
