We have a 3 phase 200 amp (208v) service that will be running a bunch of computer gear. There is a 50kw natural gas generator (with auto-transfer switch) already installed in the building on that service. We just need to add battery backup to cover the generator start-up period (less than 10 seconds).

Assuming the service is fully loaded at 80% on each phase, how large a UPS do we need? The whole 3 phase thing really confuses me for some reason. LOL
Actually, you want to avoid having your HVAC gear getting bumped by 10 second power outages if at all possible. We’ve seen more than a few compressors carted away as scrap after one of those episodes.

Nonetheless, you are correct in that sizing a UPS to carry HVAC and lighting load is normally not done.

I want to block access to the wall outlet, but at the same time, allow my self access to the wall outlet if I need to. Moving the rack directly in front of the outlet is still NOT an option. I want to total seal of access to the wall outlet. I guess they could still cut the wires, but they be more likely to try and unplug the wires before they go slicing up a live wire and possibly become fried with a couple hudered volts of electricity. I know, stupid people do stupid things. If they are that desperate and stupid, than they need to be shocked a few times. LOL So what can I buy that will allow me to block access to a wall outlet where the APC power supply is plugged into the wall outlet, but still allow me access to it if I need to get to it. Building some crude device myself, is NOT an option either. ok genius go

hey, well I got this battery back up for my computer, called “Back-UPS ES 500″, im just wondering, does it matter if i leave this box in the carpet? i know that if you leave your computer in carpet, the power supply gets messed up and dies (its happened to me a lot before lol) but i dont know if the carpet will do the same thing to my backup battery
