Matt asked:

I have a 2002 Explorer and the battery will periodically die for no reason at all. Every time I turn off the engine, I try to make sure everything is off. And like once every couple of months, I will be surprised with a dead battery. I am on my 3rd battery and they all have done the same thing. I was wondering if it was the computer causing the battery to go dead.

so i had a blackberry pearl and i dropped it in a glass of water and without thinking i decided to blow dry it. i know not smart. well the phone still turns on, it’s just the screen that doesn’t work because i tried to phone someone and it worked and it vibrates all the time still. i got a new a blackberry pearl and i was wondering if i could use the battery from my old one as like backup for my new one. the reason i thought it wouldn’t be a good idea was if there was like any mold or water damage or erosion or whatever on my old battery that could ruin my new blackberry. i’m only asking this because i talked to a lady about my memory card and she said i should clean it before putting it in my new blackberry.
thanks!

Hi All,

I have one APC UPS (800 VA) installed at my home. The UPS uses 2 lead batteries. Since last week, I have observed that the batteries are getting hearted. The APC service person did not tell the reason. He told me not to use the batteries.

What is the reason behind the batteries getting overheated.

Appreciate your help.
Thanks & regards,

Are there any disadvantages to using a battery backup (UPS) for my home entertainment system (TV, VCR, etc.)?

I happily use a battery backup for my computer, and am interested in possibly buying one to use exclusively with my home entertainment system (TV, DVD player, XBox, small computer speakers, video source selector, and VCR). All of these items are currently plugged into a power strip/surge protector.

I like the idea of having all of this equipment hooked into a battery backup - especially my VCR, which has to have the timer reset every time the power goes out, which is maybe a few times a year. I’d like the option of safely powering all of these things down on my own if the power goes out, rather than just having the power cut out as the electricity goes down.

My question is, are there any disadvantages to using a battery backup/UPS on a home entertainment system? They - at least the one that I am looking into - are generally designed to be used with computer systems, but I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work with my home entertainment system. Is there anything that you can think of that I am overlooking here that would make me not want to go ahead with doing this?

For some reason my PowerBook battery can no longer hold a charge. I’m about to reset the Power Management Unit (PMU) to see if that solves the problem. It’s my first time doing this so I wanted to find out if I needed to backup important files before going ahead with the procedure.
