Battery Backup Guide

I have a Dell inspiron Laptop with warranty till february 2010 bought in uk. It is not giving me the battery backup and its battery is totally dead. Now i have the laptop with me in Hyderabad,India. I have misplaced its warranty cards too but i have warranty left till february as per the del website. Is there any way i will get a replacement for my battery through any service center in hyderabad. Any help in this regard would be suitably appreciated. Awaiting a quick reply….

The first one didn’t last that long, so now my replacement battery has arrived. What are some tips for extending its life and usage? Should I get rid of the old battery since it’s “nearing the end of its usable life,” or should I keep it around for backup? Should I keep the new one in and keep the laptop plugged in whenever I’m at home, to constantly keep recharging it, or should I let it drain almost empty before recharging? Thanks for your tips!

There is a similar question answered 8 months back. In that case, the battery had a backup of about 15 minutes. In my Dell Inspiron, the battery initially showed a life of more than 5 hours. I was advised to keep the battery fully charged and run the computer on the mains as far as possible. I did that and lost the original and the first replacement battery in about 10 months each. I am now advised that I should use the computer off the battery and charge it only when ‘Low battery’ shows up. I have read it somewhere (can’t find the source now!) that the battery lasts only a certain number of discharges and charges. That gives a very limited life of battery. Moreover, when I am using the computer on battery, it goes very, very slow and many of my favorite sites take ages to open and interact with. Could someone please advise what is the best way out? I need to send my laptop in for repairs because the ac power cord won’t stay plugged in. My current battery is completely void of charge, so I’m not able to power up my laptop. Therefore I can’t backup my data prior to sending in my laptop. I would like to purchase a new battery so that I can perform the necessary backups. I can only do this if the new battery comes already charged.
