These are all the things I need powered. 600w computer with 4 hard drives and about 5 fans. 26″ lcd screen, cordless phone, cable modem, router, VoIP box (Vonage). I want at least 8 min run time for computer. VoIP, router and modem will last for days on most any backup since they use little power.

christianpeterpumpkineater asked: I’ve recently got rid of my server cabinet. I used to have an APC Rackmount UPS mounted in the bottom. I now have it sat under a desk, but would like to tidy things up and stand it next to my servers, on it’s side.
Does anybody know if it’s OK to stand it on it’s side? Will it affect/harm the batteries?

Joyce S asked:
I have an APC Back-UPS ES 350 and my cat spilled a drink off the desk into the open outlets…after letting it dry out, the surge strip side still works but none of the outlets on the battery backup side work anymore, and nothing with a 3 prong ground plug works at all. Is my battery toast and in need of a replacement or do I just need to trash the whole thing. They are pretty expensive to replace so if there is any one who knows of a more cost effective solution, I would GREATLY appreciate the help. —In the future I will only use my sons sippy cups when working since I was told I’m not allowed to throw the cat out the window, hehe.

kings asked: I was searching for a UPS for my computer and found one which says 1000W / 2000VA, DC 24V
This means connecting 2 x 12V batteries in series. My question is don’t UPS usually have batteries connected in parallel rather than series ?
Does connecting it in series or parallel affect the backup time ?
What are the advantages and disadvantaged of either setup (regarding UPS battery) ?
Thanks
If I do get it I’ll have to buy the batteries as a separate buy.
and connect them up myself. So how does connecting in series affect (if at all ) backup time compare to parallel and does connecting in series or parallel reveal the type or quality of the UPS ?

finance_newbee asked: Hi All,
I have one APC UPS (800 VA) installed at my home. The UPS uses 2 lead batteries. Since last week, I have observed that the batteries are getting hearted. The APC service person did not tell the reason. He told me not to use the batteries.
What is the reason behind the batteries getting overheated.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks & regards,

Waqass asked:
I went to local market and they told me dry battery ups can give backup time of 30 minutes only max and the liquid battery ups can give a lot more backup time than those dry ones but they do damage to you transistors in your pc. I was using my pc and without any flactuation of electricity my pc was crashed and on checking i was told that motherboards chip is damaged. My house is connected with luminous ups attached to liquid batteries 145amp does the liquid battery really damages the transistors?

Fuji_mans asked: Ok, we all know that UPS are expensive as it is. And every 2-3 years you have to change the battery.
I have an APC BE325 which is a 325VA. The battery is a 12V 3Ah. There is no link to a computer so no software to test the battery or limit the use of different battery.
So I wanted to know is that could I put a car or marine battery in it to increase the backup power since they are both 12V. And is there anything to be concern about before doing that?
Should I worry about overheating if I use a deep cycle battery? Also would there be a problem with a much larger ah battery?
