Using car battery with ADT Security System?
fracar asked:
I have a store, that we are closing for renovation. The electricity will be off for an extended period, but we would still like our alarm system (ADT Vista 10p) to protect the place. The backup battery is 12V 4AH. I would like to add (or replace) that with a larger capacity battery. It’s alright that it won’t fit in the case, and we will recharge the battery off-site. Can this replacement be done? Car batteries have much higher amp hour ratings, which I hope would give me the weeks of coverage I’d like.

Yes it will work. but does your phone system require power from the mains?

Yes, a car battery can be used. The alarm system is designed to use any 12vt DC source. Use just like you say - out of the cabinet and charge it off site. One thing to check, this may not apply to your system. Some systems, when you open the control box door, have a push-button switch that disconnects the power / system until you shut and lock the door again. Hope this helps.
