What has better battery life in a digital camera?

battery backup
Jugi asked:

I’m looking to get a new digital camera. I’ve been looking at a lot of the very small ones, and noticing that they all seem to come with their own rechargeable battery. My current camera uses AA batteries, and when I use lithium batteries, they seem to last forever. (Regular batteries are eaten up quickly.) I do tend to take lots of pictures - basically anything that moves (and I guess everything that doesn’t too). Would I be sacrificing on battery life by choosing a model that comes with its own rechargeable battery? I’d hate to be on vacation somewhere and the thing just dies in the middle of the day. Also, are backup batteries expensive?
My main concern is how many pictures I can get out of a single charge.

get one that is a lithum ion. They are not suppose to have a “memory” on them and can last a few years. I have two for my Sony cyber shot DSC-W80. It is a thing I have learned that I HAVE to have at least two batteries. They don’t take too long to charge so while you have one in the camera then use a supplied charger and charge the other one. It is best to have a separate charger because if there is a cable that you have to attach to the camera to charge it, you won’t be able to use it while it charges. They charge within about 4 hours. I find the battery that i bought extra for my camera cost about 30 to 40 dollars. It is well worth it to have an extra battery. Especially if you are going to be out all day at an event. If you get a camera that has a Rechargeable batteries get one with high mAh like 2500. They usually are called High capacity batteries. But those tend to have less charges than the lower capacity batteries before they die.

All the little P&S cameras I have ever owned and ever heard about seem to like to eat…… a LOT.

On the other hand, my Canon DSLR’s (20D, then 40D) are amazing - the batteries last forever. Even after several years of using them I still sometimes marvel at the huge difference.

Try checking out to compare your favorites - they probably mention battery life on each of them.
