On the other hand, my Canon DSLR's (20D, then 40D) are amazing - the batteries last forever. Even after several years of using them I still sometimes marvel at the huge difference. Try checking out to compare your favorites - they probably mention battery life on each of them. All the little P&S cameras I have ever owned and ever heard about seem to like to eat…… a LOT.

They are not suppose to have a "memory" on them and can last a few years. I have two for my Sony cyber shot DSC-W80. It is a thing I have learned that I HAVE to have at least two batteries. They don't take too long to charge so while you have one in the camera then use a supplied charger and charge the other one. It is best to have a separate charger because if there is a cable that you have to attach to the camera to charge it, you won't be able to use it while it charges. They charge within about 4 hours. I find the battery that i bought extra for my camera cost about 30 to 40 dollars. It is well worth it to have an extra battery. Especially if you are going to be out all day at an event. If you get a camera that has a Rechargeable batteries get one with high mAh like 2500. They usually are called High capacity batteries.
