what type of Sump Pump Backup should I buy?

battery backup
Lady25 asked:

What’s the best sump pump backup that is availble and most reliable? I have heard negative reviews on battery backups and them failing. My partially finished basement recenly flooded due to a power outage which is why I am trying to pick one out.

Thanks!

You need a backup sump that runs off of city water. If the electricity over fails, you have a 3/4″ copper cold water line that will gravity force open your backup system pushing water out of the sump pit. Seems kind of complicated to the non-plumber, but very simple mechanically. Now, this is NOT something you really want to take on yourself, the job is for a licensed plumber, but I can assure you that without power, it will be the only really “reliable” way to buy yourself time until power comes back on.
