In case you don't happen to know what an inverter is, it's an electronic device that changes 12 volt DC voltage up to 110 AC which would work with your sump pump. So, you're going to wind up buying something either way, and inverters are not cheap. Actually I'm not sure that they even make a 12 volt DC sump pump. I'm afraid you've got quite a hunt on your hands. Corky R

How much voltage does the pump take? If it's wall current that runs the pump, the battery current needs to be converted to AC like Paul said, with an inverter, which takes some current itself to operate. You could start your shopping at businesses that install burglar alarms, but get ready to hear sizeable quotes. Batteries are not cheap and safe installation will involve addition of specialized equipment. Solar power installers also might have the products to make your project work. I would hope to find a 12 volt pump to use during blackout. Marine supply might have what you need. don r

you would need to get an inverter and they drain the battery really fast. so you would have to have a quite a few batteries on hand to make it realistic paul s
