Why are the batteries in my APC UPS overheating?

Hi All,
I have one APC UPS (800 VA) installed at my home. The UPS uses 2 lead batteries. Since last week, I have observed that the batteries are getting hearted. The APC service person did not tell the reason. He told me not to use the batteries.
What is the reason behind the batteries getting overheated.

Did you try to contact Batteries Plus? ( )
If you have one around where you are, bring the battery over and they’ll check it out for you.
I’ve always been satisfied with the service and impressed by their knowledge of batteries
