Why does my smoke detector beep like it needs a new battery?
marknluz asked:
I know when a new battery is needed so I’m looking for other answers. My FIREX 12000 series CO/Fire detector beeps only a month after replacing the battery(beeps once every 60 seconds). Sometimes it seems to take a break from beeping. It is 1 in a connected series of 7 in the entire house - AC with battery backup. It is the one closest to the kitchen.

First just to be sure, install a fresh battery that has a “good until” date on the package. I have seen batteries set for a year on a self in a maintance shop and then dud out when installed. Also, is it warning you that it (the detector) is not getting AC power and is running on the back-up battery? If you have any literature on the detectors, look for what this beeping means in the literature. If that is not the case, and this is a combination CO and smoke detector, have someone check your furnace and water heater for CO levels if they at fueled by gas of heating oil. michael
